About the Project:
Aim: The project aims to establish a Hub of Excellence in Mediterranean fruit supply chains. It will:
- Boost innovation in Mediterranean ecosystems by focusing on nutritious food production and using by-products from food industries.
- Facilitate collaboration between Greece, Malta, and France to enhance the value chains of Mediterranean food.
Objectives: The EXCEL4MED Project Objectives include:
- Developing a comprehensive and sustainable innovation ecosystems in Malta and Greece to produce high-value food products and minimise waste.
- Establish joint research and innovation strategies, including concrete action plans and investment strategies for food processing.
- Launch pilot projects in food processing that demonstrate practices up to a technology readiness level (TRL) 7.
- Generate new business opportunities for SMEs in waste processing and functional food production.
- Enhance knowledge transfer, entrepreneurial skills, and the adoption of green technologies in food processing.
- Build new competencies and attract talent in food science in Greece and Malta.
- Increase public and scientific engagement by effectively sharing project results through scientific events accessible to all relevant stakeholders.

- Agricultural cooperatives will receive consumer feedback on products made from primary foods.
- Learn from best practices on sustainable methods and optimising the food value chain in production.
