🌍 Educating the Next Generation on Sustainable Food

How can we inspire young minds to rethink food and sustainability? That was the goal of the EXCEL4MED sessions ‘Food for Thought’ event at San Anton School, where students got hands-on experience in food innovation, sustainability, and reducing waste.

This interactive session, held as part of the EXCEL4MED project by Diana Miceli, aimed to engage and educate students on the importance of green technologies in the Mediterranean food value chain.

🍊 Learning Through Experience

At the event, students discovered how fruit and vegetable waste can be turned into nutritious food products instead of ending up in landfills. Through engaging discussions and activities, they explored:

The role of food waste in climate change.
How new food technologies are making products healthier & more sustainable.
The importance of local and traditional foods.
Ways they can personally reduce waste and make better food choices.

💡 A Fresh Perspective on Food

The enthusiasm from students was incredible! They asked thoughtful questions about how food is produced, where waste goes, and what role they can play in creating a more sustainable future. Events like this empower young people to become changemakers in their own homes and communities.

🌱 A Step Toward a Greener Future

By bringing food innovation and sustainability into the classroom, EXCEL4MED is ensuring that the next generation is aware of the challenges and solutions in the food industry. With more awareness and action, we can create a stronger, more sustainable food supply chain for Malta and beyond!
