The setting up and functions of the Co-operatives Board are defined by law. These functions empower the Board to register and exercise control over co-operative societies in accordance with the relevant legislation, encourage the establishment of co-operatives in all sections of the economy and to help co-operative societies to increase their efficiency as well as to advise the Minister on any matter relations to co-operative societies.
The Co-operatives Board consists of a number of members appointed by the Minister responsible for Co-operative Societies, Hon. Chris Cardona, Minister for the Economy, Investment and Small Businesses. The staff members at the office of the Co-operatives Board help to implement and monitor the decisions of the Board.
